Hi, I'm Amelia, a pet portrait artist

I’m 24 years old, living in Manchester with my boyfriend, making the absolute most of my life.

In 2023, we were lucky enough to spend 6 months travelling SouthEast Asia, which was honestly the best experience of our lives. We climbed volcanoes, trekked through the jungle with orangutans, rode 350km on motorbikes through the hills of Vietnam, swam with whale sharks, and experienced countless other unforgettable moments.

As you can imagine, returning home to our same boring life in the same place we grew up working the same job again seemed pretty mundane – so we changed it!

We moved to a new city, had a complete career change, started new hobbies, and I took the leap to start my pet portrait business.  There have been ups and downs along the way, but I have never been happier!

I’ve always had a passion for art – one of my first memories in school is selling Spongebob drawings on the playground for £1, and I’ve been hooked ever since! I continued with art at A-Level and in my spare time, exploring different creative paths along the way.

For a while, I thought I wanted to be a tattoo artist, but as my interests changed, I realised it wasn’t the lifestyle for me. It was a tough decision after putting in the time to create a portfolio, but I had fun doing it and that’s all that matters! I often found myself sketching animals, which, being an animal lover, felt natural. I started offering pet portraits on Instagram and was thrilled by the immediate interest.

I now work in digital marketing while balancing my art, graphic design, marathon training, calisthenics, hiking, camping, trail running and more. My life is extremely chaotic but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

My Core Values

Honesty is so important to me inside and outside of work. I think it is the backbone of all relationships and I aim to be as transparent as possible with everything I do.

Empathy drives my work, especially when creating portraits of pets who have crossed the rainbow bridge. I understand how difficult this can be and am always here to listen and offer support, aiming to bring a little comfort during tough times.

I am dedicated to personal and professional growth. I love embracing new challenges and learning from every experience to improve my skills and knowledge.

I value freedom in many aspects, whether its my mind, body, or my ability to choose my path. This drives my career aspirations, lifestyle choices, and the content I create.

When I set my sights on something, I don’t stop until I’ve achieved it. I dive in completely and can’t stop thinking about it until I reach my goal. Probably not the healthiest of attitudes but it gets stuff done!

I truly believe that pushing myself out of my comfort zone is where I grow the most. Growing up, I went down a completely wrong path and ended up in a pretty low place, with no self-respect and no direction. I’m someone who takes things to extremes and hyper-focuses on whatever I’m into, so when I was on the wrong path, it was really the wrong path.

At some point, I realised this wasn’t the life I wanted. I knew I had potential, I had big things I wanted to do, and if I carried on the way I was, I’d never get there. So, I made a choice. I got into the gym, and for the first time in a long time, I had something positive to focus on. I loved the way it made me feel—it gave me a sense of purpose. I wasn’t perfect during that time, but I started turning my life around and actually feeling motivated again.

Then I met my amazing boyfriend, Tom (on a night out, funnily enough). He’d been through a similar journey, and at first, we spent a lot of time drinking and partying together. But after a while, we both realised that wasn’t what we wanted. So, we did something different—we went on our first camping trip and hiked through the Peak District. That trip changed everything.

Since then, we’ve done multi-day hikes, wild camping, surfing trips, travelled Southeast Asia, climbed mountains and volcanoes, run a half marathon, and even camped on a mountain with no tent. I finally feel like I have real purpose, and instead of wasting my obsessive energy, I use it to push myself—physically, mentally, and in life.

Since moving to Manchester, I’ve started calisthenics, begun training for a full marathon, switched careers, and started exploring new activities to add to our list of hobbies. I’m also really focusing on my career—growing my art business, progressing in my job, and making sure my mental health and peace stay a priority. I have no idea where this journey will take me next, but I’m excited to find out.
